I'm looking to replace my Kohler M18 on my Gravely G18 with a Briggs engine off of my Gravely 816S and was wondering if it is a direct replacement. I also have the adapter plate with the Briggs engine since it I have the entire tractor. MM18 blew a rod and it since time is of the essence I thought just pulling the Briggs off of my 816S would be easier and quicker. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to help out my Dad who is 89 years. He is NJ and I live in NC, but I'm going to have to take a trip up to help him out. He just bought 2 G models with one of them having the blown M18 Magnum. He's been dealing with buying, rebuilding and reselling 2 and 4 wheel Gravelys since I've been in elementary school and I'm 67!! Appreciate it, John

The long & short of it.
Residential mowers run 1" diameter shafts 3 & 5/32" long
Commercial mowers run 1 & 1/8" diameter shafts

So almost any residential engine is swappable with any other residential engine.
However the electricial plugs and the control wires will not be a direct plug in.

To further complicate thins a lot of magnums ran the Kohler SAM ignition module which will require external ( battery ) power to work.

I regularly repower old mowers with whatever engines I have on hand so do the Kohler to B & S swap a lot.
Kohler to B &S is a lot easier than B & S to Kohler due to differences in the wiring.
