grasshopper 725k wont turn off

I just bought a 1997 grasshopper 725K. The previous owner had the motor rebuilt and said that it had started running on one cylinder. When I got to pick it up it started up and has been running great. Problem is when I turn the key position to "off" the mower doesn't turn off. You can hear a change in the sound of the engine, but it doesn't actually kill the mower. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Not sure of HP but it is a kohler motor. It does have a new ignition switch on it and i also changed it out with a different grasshopper I have and it did not change anything.

Remove the blower housing and check that the kill wire is on the coils
Common for bodge artists to pull them off when they have an electrical problem relying on the carb solenoid to starve the engine off, which works ,,,till it dosn't

Thank you. I’ll look into that!
