I have a Grasshopper 725K that is a a 2004 model with a 3452 power lift deck , Kohler command -Pro CH740 Motor . The motor was brand new last summer This last weekend while mowing after a 30 min. the mower just shut down . I let it set for approx 30 min and then restarted and continued mowing . It continued to shutdown only more frequently . I checked the gas tank venting , the fuel pump etc . It would restart with the choke pulled out but would die as soon the the PTO switch engage the mower deck

:welcome:

Sounds like crud stuck in the fuel tank.
Take the fuel cap off , remove the fuel supply line to the fuel pump and GENTLY blow some air back up the line.
If it mows for longer then it is out with the tank.
If that is a duel tank model , check the change over valve, crud gets stuck in there as well.

I check these problems using an old fuel tank suspended above the mower to verify the tank supply is the problem.

I had a customer with a brand new Husqvarna ZTR that had the same problem.
They were too far out to take the mower back and the mower shop charges $ 100 each way for collection & delivery.
Ended up being some lolly wrappers in the tank because the mower came off the showroom floor .
Kids love to put things in holes and the tank fill is a big hole.:mur:

I am wondering if it could be electrical. The starter switch has been tought to turn and sticking so I have ordered a new one . When you turn the key to make the engine turn over when you release your grip the key it does not disengage from the starter and I have to turn it back . If I over turn it shuts the motor off .

The tank is a single Steel tank . At one time I think there was a breather on it but at some time before I bought it someone put a pan head screw in the hole . I also removed the gas cap to make sure the tank was vented . it still would run a short time and the motor would die . When I first started mowing it would run about 30 min and then die and each time I would let it set for a wahile then restart it . As the day progressed the shut downs were more frequent .

Well the next step is to slip an in line plug tester on the plug and tie it up with some cable ties out of the way.
When the mower stops or better still sounds like it is going to stop check the tester,
If it is flashing eratically then goes out while the engine is spinning you have an electric problem.

If it flashes steadly till the engine stops you have a fuel problem

Have you checked engine air & fuel filters condition? Possible engine overheating condition, check oil level on dipstick, engine cooling fins free of dirt & debris.

Re: Grasshopper 725K 2004 stops running / Resolved

Not sure what I did to fix it but was successful this weekend and mowed the entire yard without a shut down .

1. Installed a new vented gas cap .
2. I replaced all of the gas line and filter , removed the original plastic gas shutoff valve .
3. Installed a new ignition Switch as the old one was sticking
4. Checked every inch of wiring and found several severely corroded connections . I sprayed these with terminal cleaner and and sandpapered the prongs.

End result was a mower that did not shut down during the 2 hrs of mowing .

THANK-You Everyone for your input !!!!!!!
