Any suggestions on a treatment to stop or reduce the wet grass build up under the deck will be welcome. I have tried spraying various products with out success. Using the hose flush attachment is at best marginal . Taking the deck off every 4 or 5 uses is a pain and not very practical..

The best way is not cut grass when it's wet.

It could be any number of things or a combination of things that's causing your problem. Mowing speed could be to fast, (height of cut) removing to much grass at one time, dull blades. Possibly changing to another type could make a big difference. If your trying to discharge or bag, use high lift blades, if you're trying to mulch and cut your grass finer Gator Blades are a good choice.
Another thing is the fact you never cut dry grass at any time as its consistency is like 70 to 80% water to start with so you'll always have a certain amount of moisture under the deck and if your mowing early in the morning with the due still on the ground will compound the problem. I would try slowing your speed down and let the mower do its job because it sounds like your accumulating to much grass under the deck and it's losing it capability or can't discharge the grass properly.

Thanks for reply. I do not cut when grass is WET WET , but it can be damp after humid night. I have 2 acres and do not always have the choise. I will try your suggestions regarding speed etc

I have been told that spraying some Teflon lubricant or WD-40 under the deck can reduce build up, or at least make it easier to shake off. I have not tried it myself though.

Some guy even made a Youtube video although I think he used too much of WD-40.

Personally, I regard the spraying with Pam, WD-40, etc. an ineffective urban legend(I even tried myself a dry teflon-based product called Zeplon.....didn't work). Accumualtion is normal to an extent but the advice of slowing down a bit from user Ric is spot on, as well as cutting less height(especially if mulching where the unspoken rule is the 1/3 rule...never cut more than 1/3 of the total height of the gras, i.e. if grass is 3" tall set the cut height at 2" therefore cutting 1", which is 1/3 of the total height). I just recently put a mulch kit(including OEM mulch blades) on my Gravely and following the "1/3 rule"(and mowing a little slower than when I side-discharged) when I am done there is BARELY any clippings underneath my deck at all(and no grass clippings evident on the cut lawn). So in a nutshell, it's all about creating the right conditions to avoid excessive clippings buildup under the deck.

I am also having an issue with grass build up under the mowing deck. I also do not mow when the grass is wet but wait until a little later in the day when dew has evaporated and the ground feels dry. I have a Troy Bilt Pony with high lift blades and never cut lower than position 3 (mid point on the lowering mechanism). It gets a bit frustrating to have to scrape out underneath the mower every time it is used so I am looking for a solution to the problem too. The blades are new high lift, having been fitted in the last four weeks. I read with interest about speed, slowing down your mowing. Presumably that means your forward speed?

I bought my mower in April 2014 and never once had an issue with grass build up until now, so I wonder.... what is different?

I was also considered using mulching blades bought for my old mower, part 742-01-610A and asked a question about using those in the Lowes question area. Interestingly, the answer from Troy Bilt was, "Those blades are too short for your mower". In fact, they are the same length exactly. Could these blades work and help prevent grass build up?

I can not offer any solution to your issue of grass build-up, but I understand your frustration, and the pain of deck removal to clean out the build-up.

So when I was shopping for a replacement riding mower, one of my main priorities was a front mounted deck that flipped up to allow more convenient cleaning of built up grass.

On my Husqvarna, the front deck can be placed in the service position in about 30 seconds, so the deck gets cleaned out after every mowing session.

This video demonstrates how easy it is..

High lift blades and either mow completely dry or completely wet so there is a fog of self cleaning moisture exiting the discharge.
