I'm not a fan of electric starting on push mowers -- it adds a lot of complication and weight to a machine that's better kept simple. So I'll probably never own one.

But I'm curious about these models. Does the OEM charger have any specs written on it -- like the charging rate in amps (or miliamps)?

Here is the charger that goes with it. I got one of these exact 8238ae models that actually had the charger and rear bag for $10 for everything!

i was looking at that one on craigslist thought about it but didnt have the funds have you got it started up yet or does it need work

no I did not start it yet but it has good compression and the tank was dry and clean. It was in storage for 8 years and will need a carb cleaning and some grease on the recoil as it was sticking a bit its also a good idea to shoot a little oil gas mix into the cylinder before running but it will have to wait till spring

A Hobbico battery used to start R/C airplane engines will indeed start a Lawnboy. I have one on my 8481AE. It will not fit under the factory green plastic housing, a point to consider if you want to keep it OEM. I mounted mine with 3M outdoor mounting tape. Cost is 24.00 VS 80+ for the factory battery.
