Greetings, I'd like to hear what you think.

I'm building a band mill, you know a sawmill. I planed to use a Kohler Magnum 18 engine.

I planed to, with the engine runing take off 1/16" from the shaft so I can use a 1" centrifugal clutch. to turn the band shaft, this has been done before with other engines.

Question: Is the shaft case hardened?

Any other thoughs on this idea.

The outer part of the shaft is heat treated for hardening, but doesn't extend all the way through the shaft. maybe the outer 1/8"

If you could devise a way to use a QD bushing the case hardening point would be moot.
