Hi there. I recently came into possession of a Troy-Built Horse. Not sure of the year but it is an 8hp Kohler engine. Its in terrific shape(while I didn't know the farmer personally those that did said he was very meticulous in taking care of his equipment) but it has been sitting in a basement for 12 years since the farmer died. It was running when he died but hasn't been started since. I pulled it a few times as it had old gas in it and I wanted to see how it sounded. It gave a couple of sputters like it wanted to start but didn't. I was wanting to get some advice on what tasks need to be done and what should be replaced and in what order. Thanks in advance for your attention.

After setting for that long will probably need the carb cleaned. Also put in a new plug and some fresh gas and see what happens. If it starts run it for a few minutes and change the oil. After you get it running probably wouldn't be a bad idea to change the transmission oil while you are at it.
