Fuel problem

Hello All, I am a new member from California that is having a fuel issue with my Troy-bilt zero turn mustang xp with the 25 hp Kohler engine.
I picked up the tractor second hand with the carburetor removed supposedly to rebuild. I have since rebuilt the carb, new fuel lines and installed a new filter.
The motor will only run for 30 seconds if I physically syphon the fuel through the fuel line and then install the fuel line on the carb., then it runs out of fuel.
The fuel line enters the top of.the fuel tank, it must have a fuel pump. Can anyone tell.me where to locate. There is a vaccume line from the tank that goes to a box yet then goes to the carb, yet no hook up for the fuel line.
Been working on for days and frustrated!

That line from the top of the tank is a vent line.. Look on the side of the carb towards the back of the mower... There is a fatter fuel line there... Follow that back and if you have a fuel pump you will see it... I will have 3 hoses all together on it.........

The fuel tank has two lines coming from it, both are on the top of the tank. One line coming out of the tank plugs into a 3x5 box in front of the motor/under the seat and then comes out of the box and plugs into the air cleaner housing. I am sure this is vacuum for the tank.
The second hose is the fuel line which again comes out of the top of the tank, plugs into the fuel filter, then travels to the carburetor where it plugs in.
I find no fuel pump on this mower and can not get fuel to travel down the line, resulting in a motor that is not getting fuel.

It's got to have a fuel pump on it to work, unless the carburetor is below the fuel tank. Even then, if all the lines come out the top of the tank, it still wouldn't work.

In your case, the fuel pump may have gotten removed with the carburetor and lost in the shuffle.

I agree with what your saying, yet I just tried to purchase a fuel pump for this model and was told that it doesn't exist.

Who told you that, Kohler or Troy Bilt?

I have tried to order a fuel pump for the Troy bilt mustang 50 xp from various online sites and all state it doesn't exist.

Get the model number off your engine and look for a fuel pump for that particular model engine.

If the fuel pump is considered part of the engine (as I think it is), the mower manufacturer may not stock it as part of their inventory.

The fuel pump will be part of the engine and not the mower.
SO to get everyone singing from the same song book.
Please post the mowers full model number from the ID tag and the model information of the engine also found on a tag on the side of the engine.
If it is a ZTR it must have a fuel pump or the mower can not run as you have already noticed.

2439316-S Fuel pump.
Fuel pump goes on the outside of the engine cover. It will be above a valve cover with a rubber tube coming out of it.

The round thing shown on the front of this image is the fuel pump.
It will just screw into the blower hosing with some self tappers.
It has a one way valve in it so must be connected right way around.
Fuel in and fuel out on the sides opposite each outer, impulse line goes to the flat side.

Fuel pump is a standard impulse pump as seen in this breakdown # 24 393 16S

Note the intake line is under the impulse line

Did you find one?

Givie ................ Your fuel pump number is 24 393 16-S

Your fuel pump IS missing if the fuel line goes in from the top... It should be mounted above the driver side valve cover... Is there a hole in the valve cover ??

Let us know Mon Ami........

After calling numerous companies all have stated Model #17wf2acp211 does not have a fuel pump listed.
Also, the vaccume line hooks into a box then travels to the air cleaner housing, this was intact.
Personally, I think the box that the vaccume line hooks up to is a pump that pumps pressure into the tank so fuel pressure pushes the fuel to the carburetor. Only a thought, but possibly if this infact a vaccume pump is out.

Well I don't know why the hell you are here wasting the time of good people who are trying to help.
It is obvious you KNOW more than the collective wisedom of all of the service technicians who have taken the effort to explain why the mower does not have a fuel pump listed.
Two more have even come back with the bloody part number of the fuel pump
Another two people have told you where it goes.

Well I will tell you where to put it
Up a place that will be a tight fit give you the least nutritional benefit.

Go "THINK"what you like.
It is not a bloody race car it is a lawn mower.
Most have an IMPUSE line that BLOWS AND SUCKS.
You THINK you have a magic machine with a vacuum line and then a vacuum line apparently pressurises the fuel tank and forces the fuel into the carb like a 1960's speedway car or old outboard .

Well obviously I and every one else who actually know what is wrong are wasting our time trying to inform you because YOU THINK YOU KNOW BETTER
Well in that case .
Good By
GOOD LUCK

Givie, you cannot look up engine parts by using the model number of the mower. Your full engine model number is either sv730-3033 or sv730-3043 depending if you have a 2010 or 2011 and Kohler shows the fuel pump as part of their parts diagram used on both engines. All fuel systems that have the fuel line on top of the tank have to have a fuel pump otherwise you cannot get fuel. The small vent line from the top of the tank creates a vacuum on the tank to prevent vapor escape into the air, there isn't a fuel system used on a mower on the market that pressurizes the tank to move fuel into the carb.

This is an exploded picture of your mower from Troy-Built. I circled the fuel pump in red. As you can see it is connected to the engine cover. It will be attached to the valve cover with a rubber tube. Then a fuel line will attach to the fuel tank and one to the carb. They do not use the process you speak of on any mower as a fuel pump. The fuel pump is an impulse pump from the engine through the valve cover. I am also attaching a picture of the valve cover impulse line listed for your mower.

Found it!!!! Thank all of you for helping me. The fuel pump is located on the front of the motor along side the carb, attached to the plastic shield that covers the top of the motor.........and I'm missing the entire shield along with the fuel pump.
Thanks again to everyone that's taken the time to help me.

Weeeelll We did tell you that it had a pump and where it was located... I even sent you a link for the engine diagram along with a few other techs on here... I even asked you if the valve cover had a hole in it....

Now you are missing a very important part of the engine that you need to keep the engine cool.... If that air shroud is not on there you will over heat your engine and you will have a good expensive boat anchor.....

Then you say you found it.... Yes you did find it with the help of this forum I'm supposing..... You need to contact the guy you got it from and get the rest of your parts......

As I said, "thank all you guys for the help". You did send me a link and you did tell me the valve cover had a hole in it. As I stated, "found it".

The motor will not be operated without a shroud, thus an expensive anchor will not result.

And again, I did say "found it", then thanked everyone
for helping and then repeated my appreciation at the conclusion.

Again, thank everyone for the help. Hopefully you will be satisfied with my appreciation, that's the best I can do.
