I, have will a fuel pickup tube an old Briggs engine 1/2 hp, need to devise a fuel supply, will a fuel pickup w/checkvalve work for this suction type carb

It sounds like your carburetor has a fuel pump on it. 1/2 hp Briggs engine, sure has to be a old engine because I never heard of one. I really don't see why a check valve wouldn't work OK. I know that all the early snowmobiles had check valves in there gas lines and they always worked just fine. It would keep the gas up to the carburetor for easier starting after it sat for some time.
