FR651v low compression

Don't overlook the Valve lash! The valve lash will change slightly from when the engine is cold vs when it heats up (like it is 100 in NC now). If the tolerance is not correctly set, you may have a valve that is not closing all the way to the seat. Check your TDC Valve lash on the ignition stroke before doing anything else.

FYI, I just watched a YT video where the same thing happened with a Kohler. When it got hot, it would stall and not restart, adjusted valves and all was ok. Worth a shot and it is worth some time and checking how to adjust online. Good luck, you got this!

Rivets and StarTech are "Royalty" for a reason. Each have more experience that nearly all other posters on here combined. I will add however that just yesterday I worked on a Kaw FR730 with 210 hours. It would run great for about 10 minutes then lose power, misfire and die and not restart till cold. Once cold it would repeat. I adjusted the valves. They were not off much but once set a .005 the issue immediately went away. Mowed for over an hour with no issues. I have heard of the internal compression release not working properly on an older engine with low hours just from sitting so much but that is just "hearsay". Again, I defer to Royalty. FWIW, compression was 90ish cold / 70ish hot / then after adjusting 120 cold (didnt check hot b/c problem was gone).

I agree with both of y’all. I don’t think they could figure out what is wrong so replace is the easy way out. There aren’t any other dealers close. This dealer is mostly an equipment dealer. Thanks for the info and advice. When I get it home I’ll do a compression test when it’s cold. I think it’s a fuel issue myself.
Compression tests are fine if they make you feel good....but that's about all they do. Yes, I do them too but rely on the differential pressure test to see where that compressed air is going.....past a valve, rings, head gasket.....

Continental aircraft engines are down to 45/80 differential as a minimum unless it's an exhaust valve...but you wouldn't want to fly with that. Your 75 and 81....this sounds like a differential test not a straight compression test....that should show north of a hundred. They didn't address the problem you gave them but saw you coming from a mile away.....

You don’t trust a dealer who is standing in front of you, but you trust someone a thousand miles away, who sounds like they know something. I’m out of this one, GOOD LUCK.
Not every dealer is honest and they can lie to your face to make extra $$. Everyone has had it happen, that is why I fix things myself anymore and don't get screwed. YouTube is a great place to learn, something we did not have growing up. See ya!

The opposite is also true: Not every dealer is crooked. Additionally, if a person doesn’t know what they are doing when attempting to fix something, they can make it worse.

Definitely can screw up things. I one mower in the shop right now that has a fried wiring harness because the owner tried inject 12v into the fuel circuit not knowing it is grounded thru the ignition switch when switch is off. Hopefully I can bypass the damage parts of the harness.

And he won't be the last one either.
