Hi guys I am a fairly new homeowner and this will pretty much be my first year to do any landscaping on my own. our house has flower beds that someone already made and I would like some pretty flowers to plant that ahem...can survive my black thumb. I am in Georgia so it's hot and often dry!

Welcome to the forum... lots of flowers here & an occasional weed :laughing:... but most always a good time.
Hot is okay ... dry is not so good, Flowers like to be watered... don't let your flower beds dry out there in Georgia... :smile:KennyV
Zinnias and Bachelor Buttons are taller plants that are pretty and don't take much care. Like KennyV said, you don't want to let them get dry. Don't keep the soil wet, either. Moist is best. Snapdragons are pretty, but they wouldn't take the summer heat well. There are others. You'll find a lot in seed catalogs.
Some of the newer rose bushes are good. They take the heat pretty good and are ok if you water them every few days. They aren't like your normal rose bushes but are more like a shrub. You can probably go to Lowe's or Home Depot to find them or search online.
Anything in the mint family, including lemon balm, spearmint, cat mint, will be pretty and smell good and will fill in quickly and easily. The down side is that it will take over if you let it.

I've determined Vinca for hot and dry conditions does about as well as any for the rewards of continuous blooms from early summer to frost.

Thanks for the suggestions you guys. I will certainly get out and water whatever we decide to go with just wanted you guys to know that we frequently have droughts. I especially like the vinca and the mint idea.
Do you want plants or shrubs? Some of the flowering shrubs are really pretty and easy to care for. I have one in the front yard that has white flowers on it. Another flowering plant/shrub is a Rhododendron. They are super pretty and aren't too bad to take care of.
