First foray into a battery-operated lawn tractor

Because spinal issues have made the continued mowing of a rough, hilly one-acre field adjacent to my home lot way too risky for my back condition (surgery may follow in the Fall), I will have to hire that done this Spring and going forward. That leaves me with a primo JD X-370 mower, three years old, with all the bells and whistles that I must sell. It's just too much mower to keep for only my 1/2-acre yard. So it's for sale: hydraulic power steering and deck lift, 22 HP, 230 hrs., armrests, bumper (the big one), all maintenance records and service records. It's a beast! With it will go a few spark plugs, an oil extractor pump by DR, extra air filter, gas filter and fuel filter, sharpened set of blades, oil filter and 2 oil filter wrenches and some other incidentals like high-dollar gas cans, etc.

Why? I've run a 20-amp dedicated line in my basement and am going electric with the EGO Power + 42" zero turn with e-steer. I am leaving behind oil, lugging gas cans, tranny fluid, filters and all internal combustion. I will sell the JD and accessories for $4,500. I am in southeastern WV (Lewisburg) about 12 mi. from the VA border. I have $6,500 in the mower. It's in mint condition!

I would like input from anyone interested in buying the JD but mainly am posting to get feedback from folks who have some knowledge/experience with this specific EGO model. Good or bad - don't hold back!

What a bunch of stuff you may never use. 6 batteries? It indicates you can cut 2 acres with the two batteries. Hope it never fails. All that electronics may lead to a hard time finding a qualified repair center.

I'm having similar back issues and my yard is rough too. I'm thinking about switching my CC ZT for a new Toro with the MYRIDE suspension. Adding gas and doing oil changes is not an issue for me. Blade maintenance is still there and any shop can repair it.
 
After extensive research into the model, I balked. I'll keep my JD and will just have to eat the cost of having the field mowed from now on and I'll mow the house lot myself. It's tame and fairly easy to mow. I do have an EGO blower and string trimmer. They are the bomb, but I'm not going to climb onto anything that essentially has no actual "brake". Also, software glitches can brick them. Thought better of it!

Maybe this will help maybe it won't but I find a lot of tires inflated to way over the load of a mower. They need just enough air to straighten the side walls. Maybe as low as 5 lbs The tires will absorb a lot of the shock and make a lot smoother ride.
 
I am an authorized service center for EGO. I agree with Freddie and it is important to buy something that someone close can repair. I've had little repairs on the zero turns so far. Mostly maintenance and firmware updates.
However, I would still think it is not a smooth enough ride for a bad back. Smart to have someone else take care of it for you. Take it from a guy in a wheelchair, take care of your back.

Yeah, there were just too many unknowns - and all of them involved inconvenience and/or potential big bucks. 😁
 
kind of off the subject. Was athletic in my youth so it was natural to think the occasional back pain, sometime quite bad, all my life was nothing more than old sports injuries coming back to haunt me. Retired a few years back and the back got worse and worse. Finally the doctor ran a test for inflammation and genetic issues. Turned out to be a gene called HLA-B27. Lots of people have it. If it activates it causes the back problems by building up calcium deposits in the vertebrae. The really bad news is that you can have perfect cholesterol but 99% of HLA-B27 gene holders die of heart disease because that calcium builds up in the arteries also. So now anytime someone talks chronic back problems I tell them, get your doctor to run a HLA-B27 gene test and see if it is active. Already this advise has helped people solve their chronic back problems. The longer they wait, the more damage is done. There are medications that can almost stop the inflammation.
 
Here in NJ I have seen large electric riding mowers (both kinds) getting sold dirt cheap. People don't like tham, and after 3 years you are into $1-2K for new batteries. They do not sell for a very good reason. That all said, I have a 50x100 postage lot at my house and use an electic push mower. This works for me with 5 batteries.

Thanks for that, but my issue is garden variety spondylolithesis and L4 - L5 - S1 impinging on the spinal cord - pain in right leg, butt, numbness in shin and off and on hip pain. Good luck to you, and hope you don’t wind up with the cardiac atherosclerosis. Be well!
