I have a exmark z hp mower with Kohler engine, its a 2003 model and has given me no promblems for the 13 years I have owned it until today, It stalled while running, it will restart but will only run with the choke on, it seems to be starving for gas , so I replaced the fuel filter, and didnt work, checked the air filter and its clean, my only thought might be fuel pump, how would I check this? its getting some gas because it will run, but only with choke on, its 80 degree here in Texas today, Thanks Gary in Texas

I am thinking a dirty carburetor fuel cant be pulled up from the bowl. if it will run on choke the fuel pump is ok.

loosen gas cap and check.

Pull the fuel line off at the carb and crank the engine cold noting the rate of flow ( measure time to fill a container )
Do the same when the engine starts to play up.
If it is slower the 2nd time you have a blockage in the fuel tank or the line from the tank to the pump.
Grass clippings get into the tank then when the engine is running get sucked into the outlet, When the engine is off they float away.
