What color smoke? Be as specific as possible because it really makes a difference.

Oil entering the cylinder is usually from worn rings or valve guides and sometimes valve stem seals. In the case of oil consumption, I always perform a compression test and cylinder leak down test to help identify the problem. Sometimes you get lucky and after removing the cylinder head you discover the cylinder & rings are still in good shape and all you need is a new head. If it were mine, I'd remove the heads for inspection and replace as necessary. If the cylinders are damaged then I'd replace the entire engine if the rest of the machine is worthy of repower.

Big- ed

kohler fuel pumps fail and pour fuel into the crankcase carb needles fail and leak fuel into the cylinders this would explain the lockup condition diluted oil will cause an overfill condition and smokeing
