Hello All,
My 21 inch Toro B&S engine bit the dust and I want to upgrade the engine.
My wife likes to do the grass cutting and sometimes waits till it is quite long. Also since we both work she only cuts on the weekends. This poses the problem of cutting long grass that could be wet as well.
What is the largest (power wise) engine that one would adapt to this mower? I do metal fabrication (lathe, mill , tig weld etc.) as a hobby. Physically, I could make anything fit onto the deck, but from a practical standpoint (Maneuverability and such) I know there must be limits. Any recommendations would be welcome,
Thanks

I would go with a 6.5 B&S. Has plenty of power.

I have a 4.5 hp lawn boy two cycle and it cut tall grass nice as long as you don't ram into the grass like racecar.

Sent from my iPod touch using LMF

I suppose you could put just about anything on there, (as you said:eek:) but a 6.5 seems to be about the current practical upper limit for a stock walk behind mower. Maybe a monster mower, with pneumatic tires, a beefed up chassis, and a Kawasaki or Honda 9hp.....aw, heck, may as well get a riding mower if you're going that far!:biggrin:

I ended up buying her a Toro Super Recycler with electric start.
She is very happy. And that's all that counts.
(and I can get to work on my projects.........yea!)
