I have a MTD 1998 Yard Machine 13A S679G 062.
Took the deck off and reattached. All connections look ok.
However, engaging and disengaging the blades is a problem.
When attempting to disengage the blades, the deck hits the engine pulley.
Also, attempting to lower or raise the lever is difficult and I can hear springs popping.
Is this due to the incorrect position of the disengagement rod?
Where is the threaded end of the rod supposed to fit?
If I find where the threaded end fits, which way am I supposed to twist it to solve this problem?
Or am I on the wrong track?
Thanks.
it isn't so much as the disconnect rod being out of adjustment is it is the wear of all the linkages that allow the deck to rock back and forth. You will get enough tilt in the deck from wear that it will hit the engine pulley. I have actually seen it get so bad that it closed the gap on the pulley for the deck belt. Between the wear in all the linkages and the deck and lift hangars getting sprung can cause all kinds of issues.
Do you know some one with a welder who likes beer ?
Not difficult, just labour intensive,
Replace the cheap linkages & weld / drill the others.
Some of the linkage pieces are only a few $
