Is there any way of moving the engine forward on its mounts? I am trying to get a little extra bite to the deck belt. I am having belt slip, and yes, I have the OEM spec belt on it (just changed it). I was considering unbolting the engine and slotting the mounting holes, or shimming the front mounts. Would this work? Any other remedies?

Thanks.

edit: I was also thinking about a shorter belt. One that was 1/2 to 1" shorter.

I suspect it would be easier and more successful to replace worn pulleys with new pulleys.

Also, think about what moving the engine would do to the drive belt length.

Good luck finding a shorter belt to fit a MTD correctly.

I have shimmed more than one engine on the mtd products over the years. It seems that on some of the newer models the frame is thinner causing the from of the engine to drop when the frame flexes or stress relieves.

On the mtd you can go a half in shorter on the deck belt.
But must use the correct belts on the drive.

I run most my belts a half inch short.

Remember if you move the engine, you will have to change the drive belt also.

It's not just a can of worms being opened here but a container the size of a wash tub.

If this mower ever goes to another owner, and I suspect it will, he will not be scratching his head at some point but other body parts until there won't be any of those parts remaining and his voice will go up several octaves.

Thanks. I would like to try that. Do you have an MTD number shorter than the 954-0371A?

I did buy one if these once..."hotted up", like.
I found the same cream used for tinea fixed my resulting problem
before revisiting prepubesence.

yer a wise man... I trust some will listen.
