Encore Blows Fuse

Working on an old old Z52 Encore zero turn mower and it blows the 20-amp fuse as soon as I turn the key to the start position. I can pull the exciter wire off the solenoid and it still blows the fuse. This thing has a safety control module just wondering if it could cause the problem. I have checked the wiring harness and can't see any burned places in the harness. The ign switch was bad, and I replaced it but still has the same problem. Someone replaced the original engine with an old Briggs opposed twin. That is not the problem I owned this thing about 10 years ago and that is the engine that was on it then and it ran flawlessly then. So, I know that is not the problem.

Dead short that is grounding out. You will need a multimeter, flashlight to trace, test, and examine all wires and connections, and patience and luck.
 
Are you sure the new switch has the same letter ID at the pins and the old one that was on the machine? I've seen wrong switches before. They often look the same on the outside but are different internally.

If this model has a fuel anti-backfire solenoid, check the wiring for it carefully, then unplug the solenoid to see if the short still exists.

It helps to have an old automotive style circuit breaker to put in place of the fuse and it will save you from wasting a lot of fuses.
 
Switch is the same have the circuit breaker fuse. Can not be the fuel shut off solenoid it only throws the circuit breaker when key is turned to start position. I pulled the wiring harness and can find nothing burnt. Should have pulled the safety control module and tried it them but hindsight is 20/20.
 
Okay If I am looking the right model [52B550Z] schematic then disconnect the starter wire at the ignition switch and see if the operation now trips the breaker. And also with both starter trigger wire ends disconnected take an OHMs meter check it to see if it is grounded to the frame.

If the breaker trips with the starter trigger wire disconnected at the switch then the problem has to be related to switch or another component.
