Hello all,

I have a snapper sr1433 hi vac with a 14.5 hp ohv briggs engine and I am having starting issues. The mower ran great before it didnt... A week before I started having issues I replaced the spark plug, air filter and changed the oil for the season. The mower was staring every first key turn with no issues. Then I got a call from my wife stating the mower shut off and she couldn't get it started. When I came home I put a spark plug tester on and it indicated there was no spark. Being that the mower ran great before I figured a bad part. I immediately ordered a magneto. After replacing it I still am not making spark.

I have looked over the wiring and think there may be a wire that was disconnected. It would explain the sudden loss of spark...looking over the wiring I noticed that there are two wires coming from under the flywheel, sorry if I am calling it the wrong thing but I'm referring to the part the starter engages and it also brushes the magneto to make spark, and it has two wires a red and a black. The red is run directly to the positive side of the solenoid. The other is disconnected. However I think maybe it is supposed to be as some diagrams showed headlights run off that black lead from the alternator, and I don't have any. I also noticed a red wire coming off of the positive terminal of the solenoid going to a fuse and back towards the engine. It had a connector that looked like it had a wire ripped out of it. I have no idea where it would go.

With no spark and a suspect wire I think this may be the culprit. I just don't know where to go with t. Hope someone can help.

Star by removing he cowl and trace the thin wire from the coil.
That is the cut ut wire, if it is earthed out any where you will not get any spark. This is how the ignition actually works.
Some times they run the alternator wire & the kill wire together so they come out through the same hole.
If you put voltage t the kill wire you will fry the coil/ignition module so double check every thing before you reconnect the battery.
The red wire has a diode in it and goes back to the battery usually via the solenoid feed wire.

Most machines the kill wire plugs into the wire harness near the engine..
If you unplug it and engine starts you can kill engine by choking the carburetor..

The kill wire comes from the key switch and runs through the safety switches..
IE if you fall out of the seat, the safety switch kills engine..

You can use a cheap muli-meter and check wiring circuit...

I bought a 2005 Snapper Scrambler Series 6 33 inch in 2012. Model # YZ186BVE serial # 50218B72. I paid $250 for it. First think should I dump money into it. It seems to have low hours. The electric clutch/brake keeps blowing the 20 AMP fuse. It seems to be in good working order. It does take more than the 5 seconds to spin down. Most likely it needs adjusting. The PTO was bad because it had melt down. After replacing/repairing it continued blowing fuses. I traced the clutch wiring back under to the clutch. The PO had crimp splicers on the 2 black wires coming out of the clutch/brake @ 3 inches out of the clutch. I ohmed out the clutch & got a reading of 3.2 ohms with my Fluke 77 meter. Using alligator clip leads I moved the wires around that lead into the brake/clutch. Just as I expected the meter went to 0 ohms. I found that the 2 wires are rubbed threw. So I cut the 2 splicers & removed the heat shrink to check the rest of the wires for other shorts. I then put heat shrink on the 2 wires were they rubbed threw. Then I installed water proof connectors & new heat shrink the length of the wire. Buttoned it all back up. Still plowing fuses. SOB. I am going to remove the clutch brake. Is the shaft threads normal by meaning lefty loosely. I have a 3 arm universal puller will this work. Does the clutch have a connector in it or is it hard wired in. The clutch runs $222. Who sales parts for a good price. I have been using Small Engine Parts Warehouse | SEPW.com
