Wonder how annoying it would be for that to run out of juice in the middle of a mow and either run a really long extension cord or push it back to charge area. lol otherwise sounds pretty cool

Er, it weighs about 800 lbs.

However, it has a fuel gauge for the battery, so there's no excuse for that to happen.

Your thinking like its a gasser..out of fuel an BAM, everything stops. Dude, electrics don't work like that. They start to slow down and you know they are low on charge. By switching off the blade motors, you have plenty of juice to get back to charge central.

About as annoying as some posters.

The concept is pretty cool, but IMO it really doesn't serve any real purpose.

It serves the same purpose as any electric alternative to the internal combustion engine. Perhaps you should have said that it is not cost-effective atm.

Yea your right I should have said that it is not cost-effective. It's to expensive for the average homeowner and doesn't do a thing for the commercial operator.

The Hustler ZEON....an electric zero-turn mower! Pretty cool!

That is pretty cool that Hustler decided to accommodate EPA employees:0)
I agree, though, for a 42" cut at that price most homeowners would opt for a lot more ZTR in a gas-powered. And I would be curious since the specs state "high blade-tip speed for beautiful quality of cut" as to how fast compared to the 18,000+ fps of other ZTR's. The engine, I noticed, is manufactured by HydroGear so most likely it is very good quality. Who knows...some more R & D and improvements(with more competitive pricing), something like this could eventually replace the residential gas-powered ZTR's. All in all not a bad idea to pursue something like this(especially as gasoline continues to climb in price).

It is an awesome idea, but I think the technology will need to improve a little, so the batteries can last longer.

The $5000 price tag is steep for something that still uses lead-acid batteries. And it can't be used commercially due to the battery even though the construction is claimed to be "commercial quality".

Well you could use it commercially, but you would just run out of battery after the first few lawns!

This is not a ZTR mower, but it's a riding mower that's electric. It's called the Recharge G2. But it costs $2,500. :frown:

I think I would rather buy a larger GAS riding mower because it seems you can get "more for your money".

And if you don't feel like clicking on the links in my last post (post #17) (Electric riding lawn mower), here are some pics of the mowers I was talking about there.

$5,000 for a 42" mower that will only mow 1 acre per charge?!?!?!?! No thanks.

Just like everything else electric, if it were less than half the price, it might be something worth looking into.

I am not surprised there is no buyin for this from the commercial guys. Because there is just no way to use it commercially. I would consider this if it were 3k tops. I am guessing they use std lead acid to reduce the cost as well. I think I am probably their target audience and I have issues with cost(up front purchase price) and future maintenance costs... I have a gas golf cart because it it used very infrequestly and I worried it would eat batteries. I would have the same concern with this mower.

There are some lawn care companies that use electric mowers and have solar panels on top of their trucks to charge their equipment, but I am assuming it would probably take longer to charge a ZTR, so it might not be possible.

It would take a large number of solar panels to charge that ZTR between yards.

The Zeon top speed is only 6mph and you said you would be curious about the blade tip speed, your lawn tractor would probably have more BTS the zeon is only 15.500 A regular commercial runs 18 to 18.500 My GS is 18.500

I wonder how long that hustler would run if I strapped my 2k honda generator to it while mowing?
