Hi all,

We bought an EGO self-propelled mower about two years ago in an effort to get away from gas-powered devices. Last fall, it started shutting down with the yellow light that indicates an overheating condition, though it never felt hot to the touch. I put up with it until the season was over, then took it to an authorized repair place. They had if for a long time, but finally returned it after getting a replacement part from EGO.

In the spring, I began using again but, when the weather got warmer, it started doing the same thing. I took it back and, after a month of waiting, EGO replaced the mower with a brand new unit, though they gave me back my old battery. On the first outing, it shut down again after about a half an hour. Although it re-started right away, I am pretty disappointed in this mower. Has anyone had a similar experience with an EGO?

To give you a better idea of what I deal with: we have about an acre of area to mow with mixed grasses. It’s on a slight hill, so we need to use the self-propelled feature for half of the passes. Summer temperatures here are in the mid-to-high 80s with high humidity.

Thanks!

Mark

Sorry to write 2 years late. We bought a dead EGO Mower ($58), an LM2100 I believe. The People we got it from said the battery died 1 month out of warranty and the self-propelled feature quit when the Mower was less than 2 years old. The failed Battery was a 7.5 Ah OEM Battery. I read that the wiring would break inside the handle killing the Self-Propelled feature so I tore into it and found broken wires. I used high strand count super flexible wire to replace then factory wiring. Shopped for a Battery and they cost almost $400 at the time. I was ready to junk it and then found a new EGO 7.5 Ah battery on Ebay. It had a Buy-it-now price of $160. It was just listed so I bought it. Sharpened the Blade set. Beautiful Mower.

So EGO says the Mower is equivalent to a Gas Mower. I used it to Mow our front yard with the Grass around 4" tall. It had trouble bagging and the Blade slowed down unless I went real slow. It also seemed to kick some of the clippings out the side of the Deck. My experience was that the EGO wasn't even close to our Gas Mower. So the Battery had 1 Mowing use and the Mower looked new and was rewired by me. I listed it for sale for $425 with a 1 year warranty and it sold for my asking price. At the time it sold, a new one was around $600.

Oddly, the old failed Battery we got with the Mower would shut off similar to what yours was doing.

I got out my Toro Recycler Commercial Mower and it just does an amazing job. I have no plans of trying a Battery Mower again. My Neighbor had a Ryobi 40 volt Mower and while it was charging in his Garage, it burst into flames. He had Smoke Detectors in the Garage, thank goodness.

Those are my thoughts.
