Echo SRM-265 problems

I have an Echo srm 265 and it will not kick into that higher gear so I can use it, any help?

Is that not a straight shaft trimmer...?
I was not aware that it had a transmission of any kind, other than the fixed angle drive at the head... :smile:KennyV

I am not to mechanically inclined, but what I am trying to say is that the engine does not get to its fullest so the weedeeater is not able to cut.

Likely carb cleaning OR rebuild will get it going...

Take your time be patient and you can do this... 2cycle carbs seem to be very fuel quality sensitive and thus need a bit of fiddling...

A change in type or mix ratio of oil will also make a difference and can require a bit more fiddling because if you mix More oil you are effectively leaning the fuel air mixture... once you get it right and you stick to a particular fuel oil mixture, It should remain pretty good until the gasoline quality changes a little ... then a bit more tweaking at the caarb will get you good again... This looks and sounds a lot more difficult than it actually is...:smile:KennyV

I have one and it's unforgiving of any fuel/oil mixture differing from 50:1. Too much oil and it acts like it has the choke on and won't rev.

i have run into the same issue. mine was the blade adapter at the angle head was broken. and creating friction enough to keep it from spinning up to full speed. so when it was installed it rubbed the other parts. once it was replaced it was cured. i hope this is your fix. and i have helped in someway.:laughing:

Hello,alot of times the muffler spark arrestor screen gets clogged solid with carbon and the exhaust can't escape properly

A lot of time the high speed adjustment needle screw needs to be turned out a bit to richen the gas mixture for the carb. To do this start the trimmer and let it warm up. The take a tiny flathead screwdriver and turn the mixture screw out while giving it a little throttle to see if the engine is getting full throttle rpms. the adjustment screw is located on the side of the carb towards the bottom near the recoil starter assembly.

G'day mate. I think you are mixing to much oil in your fuel if this happens regularly or you may be using a poor quality oil. Try using a good quality oil and mix it at 50:1 ratio and see how you go. Cheers
