eating belt

Is the idler pulley turning freely. Is there evidence that the belt is being cut. What does the belt look like after failure. Worn inside or outside, pulled in two, edge wear on one side or the other, burnt appearance. The belt will give clues why it is failing so suddenly.

its thinner an longer would a sticking park brake cause falure,i took the brake pads out an tractor sure does roll a lot easier.
