Disconnect the plug and see what happens. Don't know how you will start it when the battery goes dead. The alternator/stator charges the battery.

I really don't see why you would need the alternator/stator for the engine to run. Some of the early mowers didn't have them that had electric start. A small charger came with the mower that you plugged into a wall socket. You will still need the coil or ignition module and flywheel for it to run.

Originaly I had a small fire that fused all the wires together and not knowing any better I ripped all the cooked wires out and spliced new ones in. There was a diode in those wires and I did not know that. The battery would not charge so I used my car to jump the mower. Several people told me that jumping with the car was OK but more than a few have told me that doing so would ruin the stator, did'nt find that out until too late. After doing several repairs plus dealing with the stator problem I must cut the grass and can't wait on the stator to show up in the mail.

So that is where the question comes from. I'm going to have to put it all together to cut the grass. Was just wondering if I could leave out the bad parts. I think I will put it back together as it was....

Thanks for the help!!
