How do I get the main bolt out on top of the engine to expose the stator?? Its 15/16" and there seems to be no way to hold the flywheel....
Help! The grass want stop growing!!
Long before air and electric impacts were invented there were mechanics that knew how to impact a nut in instances like you are experiencing.
I don't give away many of my secrets  but I feel the need at times when someone needing to repair a mower asks for help.
To
Red Neck Impact - that nut you place your 15/16" box wrench on it and get the neighborhood kid to hold it in place so you can take a Mickey Mantle swing at it with a 2x4 about 2 ft. long. If it's a kid you like get him another 2x4 to hold the wrench down on the nut by pushing the end down on the nut/shaft.
If you don't have a neighbor kid, the wrench can be made to remain in place for impacting by shimming it with a cereal box top or other suitable household supplies etc.
If you have a cycle helmet with a face shield and an athletic cup I suggest wearing them.
I guarantee it will break free. I've never had this method fail. It even works on blade nuts and nuts on top of jack shaft sheaves.
