There's an Atlanta-based radio talk show host named Neal Boortz. One of my favorite Boortzisms: "A lottery is a tax on stupidity."

They started it here 4, or 5 years ago, and i have bought 2 in that time.. Its a waste of $$ the odds are to high, and the lottery commissioner makes way to much money...

Many people feel that the lottery is a tax on the poor, because they are more likely to spend on it than those who can better afford it. Well, nobody is MAKING those poor folks spend money on the lottery, so maybe they are just stupid.
I formerly knew a number of people who had low income, and the vast majority of them were chain smokers. They would complain about being broke but they always had money to blow (pun intended) on cigarettes.

People that buy lottery tickets are plain stupid.
I don't know what to call people that play VLT's,they make stupid people look like einstein
You stole my thunder Two-Stroke. That's exactly what came to mind when I read the OP.
LandN, I completely agree. There needs to be a special line for the lottery ticket purchasers. I hate standing there holding a case of cokes or beer while some nitwit in front decides he/she wants 15 lottery tickets, but can't decide which ones or how many of each. I've gotten to where I rudely bump into them while saying excuse me in an exasperated tone, and set my things down heavily next to them on the counter in an effort to make them realize they're holding people up. Doesn't do any good, but it makes me feel better.
Not pulling any punches eh Bison...?
What is a VLT?
I will buy 2-3 a year and it's worth the few minutes of fantasy time thinking about the possibilties....for a buck.
The money goes to the school system so it's a donation as well.

MM, when the lottery system was established here, the people that backed it then said it would end school funding problems once and for all. HAHAHAHA....the truth is, even if the suckers here spent 100 billion dollars a year on the lottery system buying tickets here, the schools would still only get the same fixed amount of the money collected from the sales of tickets that they currently get.
Yes, it is possible in other states more of the money goes to support education, but not so here. Question, when you say it is a donation, does that mean you can deduct it on your taxes if you itemize? Thanks.

And while on the subject of gambling, get this:
About 5 years ago we took a week long cruise on a Carnival ship, and of course they have casinos on board. You could even gamble from the comfort of your room, playing blackjack, etc. using the remote control on your tv set. Your wagers and wins/losses were tied to the credit card you used for services on board.
Now, tell me, if you were stupid enough to do that, how do you know the people who set up the tv gambling system DID NOT rig the odds heavily in favor of the house? In the casino, playing blackjack, you could at least watch the dealer as he dealt the cards. Probably there are people who are stupid enough to think any gambling is on the level.....:laughing::thumbdown:
