Do all leaf blowers have mufflers?

This may be a stupid question but I want to know if all leaf blowers would be included in this section of my cities ordinances.

13. Lawn and Garden Equipment. The sound emitted by motor-powered,
muffler-equipped lawn and garden equipment operated between the hours of
nine oclock (9:00) p.m. and six-thirty oclock (6:30) a.m.

Thanks.

They need a muffler even to run right. Without the back pressure of a muffler it will be lucky if they would even run.

Thank you for the answer. My neighbor was clearing an inch of snow off his driveway at 4:30 this morning with his leaf blower. I was not happy. I'm glad to know that it's not allowed.

Now to know what is allowed in your town is something I don't know. All I said they need a muffler to run right. A 2 cycle engine just naturally runs louder then a 4 cycle engine. It sounds to me like you have a very bad neighbor problem. I would think you will have to talk with someone in the town government just to see what laws they have on noise. I hope you the best of luck on this because 4:30 on a Sunday morning he is just a big dope. Maybe call the law and see if they will talk with him? I do find in life that there is always a bad neighbor some place.

If your 13 is your ordinance then Yes they would be included. The sound pressure ratings on leaf blowers range from 70 to 90 db.

Actually, two stroke and four stroke engines can run very well without mufflers. When my lawn mower's muffler fell off due to vibrations, the mower still ran. I have used two blowers without mufflers and both ran fine (see my thread "Muffler Smokes".) Some mufflers are so simple that they wouldn't cause back pressure at all.

All machines come from factory with mufflers. However people remove them for various reasons none are smart but they do.. small engines run more on combustion then compression so the back pressure isn't quite as important as say a diesel engine that relies more on compression and needs back pressure.

Common courtesy is no loud noises 10pm-8am but hoa's have all kinds of different rules that need to be followed if your unfortunate enough to live in one

The problem with HOA's having all kinds of different rules needing to be followed is the fact they never do enforce any of there rules. As long as you pay all your fees they could care less what you say or do. I seen different Lawn-care businesses starting here as early as 6:30 to 7:00 am, daylight. The guys that work for the golf course here are mowing across the street from me on the 14th hole at 5:00 am.

We can just have too many rules. The more rules I feel the less freedom. Too bad some people just don't have any common sense. I wonder if he would like it if someone ran a load generator next to his house all night.

I would imagine electric leaf blowers and other electric lawn units are not included in muffler equipped anything. I know I use a electric leaf blower to move light snow and I do not care if it is Sunday, Monday, or what time it is. I start with snow of any kind about 4 am. It is being done at the Dairy Queen beside me, the donut shop half a block away, at the schools, hospital, low rent housing, old folks home, downtown business, gas station, churches, highways, city streets, fire house, city buildings, doctors, lawyers, dentist everyone and everything if it snows even a little. City trucks are roaring all over town all night long if ice is coming and the lumber yard stays open so folks can get salt for their sidewalks. And none of these other folks use electric. When it snows it is time to move snow.
