Here are some descriptions and pictures of the different lawn striping systems available for mowers.

---------------The Kinds:---------------

Roller: roller.jpg (http://www.scag.com/images/striper-kit05.jpg)
Brush: brush.jpg (http://www.weekendfreedommachines.com/discus/messages/17/203185.jpg)
Flap: flap.jpg (http://www.mowersdirect.com/product-images/SnapLawnStripe_500.jpg)
Chains: chains.jpg (http://users.tellurian.net/tom/lawn/lawnstriping.jpg)

---------------Brands:---------------
There are many different brands of lawn stripers, but here are some of the most popular ones for small walk-behind mowers:

Big League Lawns for 20-22 in. mowers: lawn striper 1.jpg lawn striper 1b.jpg Lawn Striper | Big League Lawns
Toro Lawn Striping System: lawn striper 2 toro.jpg Toro 20601 Lawn Striping System
Lawn Stryper: lawn striper 3 stryper.jpg Lawn Stryper - Pattern Your Lawn Like The Pros - The Green Head

For the Toro Timemaster:

---------------Homemade Lawn Rollers:---------------

Of course you can make some of these things yourself, for a LOT cheaper.
Here is a roller someone made themselves:

Here are some more pics of homemade lawn striping rollers. I made one somewhat like the second one and I think it would work better if it was held against the ground (by like a pole, not a chain, that can bend). But mine was also lighter, so it didn't really work.

lmf,
Wow, I didn't realize there were so many kinds!!! That last one with the chains reeks of the suggerstion by user Carscw for using a piece of chain link fencing. Looks like I've got a bunch of research to do:0)
I'll try to find a picture of that Gravely brand "hex striping kit" if I can and post it here.

In my opinion striped lawns always look the best. I like seeing the different patterns that people can create and the different tools they use to achieve it. Brings out the creative side in us gardeners:laughing:

How about some more detail and better photos to share instead of just posting the same link.
Will you design one to fit riding mowers?
Will you design one to fit zero turn mowers?

Interesting for sure but it had been done before .. a lot mostly in the form of a metal pipe filled with pee gravel capped off and zip tied to that flap. Problem is that your method and the pipe method make it difficult to back up not impossible sure but more difficult.

The stripers that are mounted behind the mower present the same problem. The only one I've ever seen worked was one that mounted between the wheels under the trans it was a roller type on a solid axle the problem this one presented was that you could not adjust your rear wheels (all summer my rear wheels not get adjusted)

It didn't say how much it was for sale for?

Thanks for getting back to us!

Rotary type mowers, by their nature, lift and cut so any roller or 'comb' (As we plan to use) has to be on the rear of the mower. We use the existing rock guard as a platform so height adjustment is never a problem.

Metal pipe and other such "home remedys" are dangerous for the very reasons you mentioned. Our bolt-thru system is time tested and will not wear off for years and years.

We are using "KICKSTARTER" to launch this product early next month and we truly value all of you input. (This is not just lip service I assure you!)

For people who purchase on Kickstarter the price is $30.00 (US) including shipping and an 'as long as you own your mower guarantee is implied!

As mentioned in another post, this 'has been done before' but ours has NO moving parts and can be used on almost any type of turf sod.

Plans for zero turn and riding type mowers are well into development but our focus on the home owner model is paramount right now.

I had never considered this an overly important part of my business... however... after reading through this thread, introducing some striping this next mowing season is under serious review. It's not something I've noticed my competitors doing locally so it might give me a serious advantage and some appearance points with the customers.

I agree, I think it will give you an edge over the competition. I have never had anyone ask for lawn stripes, but people always say the lawn looks great. And stripes from a commercial mower I think look better than from a 21" mower like mine.
