Mower deck Deck belt will not stay on after disengaging PTO

I have a 13AK608g062 serial #1d070h10770 42" single deck belt mower that works great when I engage the deck belt. All goes well until I disengage the PTO. The belt then flies off.
It seems as if there is not enough tension on the belt after I take the PTO off. When I enguage the PTO it cuts great. I have looked at the deck diagram and cannot see anything that is a belt tension devise when the belt is idle.
I have the correct belt (97 inch) . I am stumped because everything works well except the belt is loose when not engaged.
Please help!

First did you put the covers back on that go over the pulleys? They have belt guide pins in them to keep the belt.

There are two pins next to the engine pulley. Check that they are still there and not bent or loose.

You can try dropping the engine down to a idle before disengaging the pto.

Thank you for the quick reply!. Yes, I have put the covers on. There are two pins next to the engine pulley and they appear to be straight and tight.
I will try to bring the engine to idle before disengaging the PTO.

The two pins at the engine pulley should almost touch the pulley.

Look at the idler pulleys the flat ones. They should have a tab on them to keep the belt on.

Thanks! I took another look at the engine pulley, and only saw ONE pin on the left side!
I will have to order the part after I figure out what it is called and where it attaches. The left side attaches to the frame.
In the meantime, I have taken the slow down to an ide advice and that seems to help quite a bit.

Check out page 18 in owners guide. Now would be a good time to remove deck and give it a good cleaning both topside and underside. Use mechanic gloves and safety glasses. Remove blades, clean, sharpen and balance blades. Inspect deck for loose hardware, worn out idler pulleys and mandrels, and belt pulleys for wear. Hands on, see if idler pulleys and mandrel pulleys spin freely, and using both hands on each pulley try rocking back and forth and up and down to check for wear and noise from mandrel bearings. Using grease gun apply grease to all grease fittings. Use oil squirt gun and lube all moving parts, not on belts. Inspect underside of tractor, especially transaxle drive belt, replace if needed. Lube all moving parts underneath after careful inspection. One very important item is to grease steering sector and pinion gears using old paint brush. Reinstall blades, torque to mfg. specs., reinstall deck and let us know if belt stays on.

I think they call them guide pins.
You can use a bolt and double nut it.

I purchased a 5/8 6" bolt, double nutted it, and my problem is solved!!
