Dear mower mechanics and engineers.

I have a question about one part from TORO 56175 (1988) mower. On the bottom of this Front Axle Assembly diagram you can see a part number 19. TORO says it is called "Steering Rack". I would like to ask the experts, could this part also be called a "Steering Gear" or a "Sector Gear"? Even it does not have round shape, It does have teeth like many gears have and it does turn.

Thank you very much for your help!

Regards, Roma.

I'm no expert on this mower but that type of part, on a car or truck, would be called a rack.

On a mower I believe it's called a Manual Sector, some just call it a steering gear.

Sector gear usually has the gear teeth on the outside rather than the inside... on the inside like that I would call it a Rack... it is without any question the steering gear... BUT no matter what anyone calls it... If you are looking for that part, and the manufacturer calls it (anything), you really need to call it whatever the manufacturer calls it... in this case, "TORO says it is called "Steering Rack"," ... so that's what it should be called...

BTW... WELCOME to LMF...
