I thought I'd start a thread where good deals can be posted. I'll start with a Hitachi RB24EAP handheld gas 2-cycle blower on sale at Amazon for $99.99 with free shipping. MSRP is $150, but normal street price is about $130. It is very lightweight, easy starting and packs a lot of power for its size. I've had one for about a month and am very pleased with it.

Yep I purchased that homelite the last time they were on sale, used the first time and it work great then it wouldn't start after that.Needless to say HD got it back.

If your're not hung up on premium brands here IMO is a good deal to snap up if you are looking for a 2 stroke line trimmer. Sears has the 31 cc bump head straight shaft on sale @ $114 local PU or free ship. It is the old style tank placement and has the MTD engine I had for 10 years in my ryobi 790 R. The engine is what they call a 1/2 crank (?meaning?) the crank only has one main, but while it lasts (10 yrs of abuse) it is a demon.

I looked on line but for 6 months none were available here NW. Finally they moved some stock out here. There are currently 2 in Portland area. The only thing that bugs me is the silly "rubber band" starter cord, but I can live with it. The snap in feature accepts my old Ryobi brush blade and also the 2 old bump heads. (ONLINE ONLY)

Yeah, if I needed a blower I would 1. buy from a dealer and 2. buy a different brand like Echo or Stihl or another good brand. I would not buy a Weedeater or Homelite, but that's just me. I am just pointing out the deals, not recommending them.

Sometimes even name brands have spotty quality. For example, there have been a lot of recent bad reviews of the Husqvarna 125B blower. I've had no problems with the Hitachi blower that I bought recently, but there is no comparison between it and the much better quality that is evident in the Echo blower. The Homelite blowers have consistently bad reviews similar to what Ric has posted.

Found this on my local Craigslist for $75. Looks like a Honda HRR216PKA, that sells new for over $400.

Go for it! I have never used a Harmony mower (the Honda's with the darker gray decks like that), but I love my 2 Hondas!

Earthwise 14" battery powered mower for $99.87

I just ordered one from Amazon: Amazon.com: Earthwise 60214 14-Inch 24 Volt Side Discharge/Mulching Cordless Electric Lawn Mower: Patio, Lawn & Garden

MSRP is $249.99 and the lowest price I could find anywhere else is $228 at Walmart.com. Amazon has free shipping on this item, which is nice because it weighs 60 pounds and shipping costs are high. This is by far the lowest price on a battery powered mower and is even lower that any corded electric mower. This would be good as a small mower to mow in tight places, and the nice thing is that it has a single lever adjustment for wheel height with a wide range from 1.5" to 4" and 7 settings.

Update: Earthwise 14" battery powered mower price reduced to $92.09

Since my post on 12/29, Amazon has further reduced the price on this mower to $92.09, which is a 63% reduction from MSRP. I managed to cancel my previous order @ $99.87 before it shipped and re-order at the lower price. I just received shipping confirmation and should have it by next Monday.

Greenworks 10-inch Li-Ion battery pole saw / tree pruner

I just ordered this: Amazon.com: Greenworks 20622A 40-Volt 4 Amp-Hour Cordless Lithium Ion 10-Inch Pole Saw/Tree Prune: Patio, Lawn & Garden

317DvK2BvTL._SY450_.jpg

This is a closeout at 74% off MSRP. The battery alone costs twice as much. I have several tools that use this 40-volt 4 amp-hour battery, including a lawn mower, and it is very strong and provides long run times. The bar and chain are standard Oregon replacements. It has an auto-oiler and simple chain adjuster. You can adjust it to 2 different lengths with the middle section to extend it.

That is excellent, since Home Depot's price is already $100 under MSRP. I didn't know that Harbor Freight coupons are good at Home Depot. Good to know.:smile:

If it sounds too good to be true.......

....then it probably is not true.

In post #20 I described what seemed to be an incredible deal on a battery powered pole saw, which was supposedly selling for about half the cost of the battery alone. I had placed the order with this online merchant along with another order for a battery powered chain saw that was an equally great deal. Last Friday I received an email that both orders had shipped and yesterday the charges appeared on my bank account statement. Curiously, though, no tracking numbers were provided for the shipments.

Well, guess what ? Today, I received two emails informing me that a mistake had been made and that the orders had not been shipped. In fact, neither item was ever in stock nor will they ever be, and the shipping notifications were in error. So, my orders have been cancelled with no rain checks for future purchase at the same great prices and refunds will be issued to my bank account. Of course in the meantime, my bank account has been fraudulently debited those amounts for the false shipments and the balance reduced until the refund is issued. I wonder how many other customers have been hoodwinked by this scammer.

mower mike, I buy stuff online and have been singed a few times. most recently an E coast co with a jolly web site took my order and NOTHING for 3 weeks...no email no tel con ,nothing.

I use c cards so I sicked discover on to the problem. I was told to wait 1 month. At day 29 the shipment arrived and ok. A week later the vendor called and sobbed his account had been backcharged, for no reason. I told him to deal with the card co.

You should have a bank safety clause?? Anyway I stay with ebay (they will fight for you if you're right) or credit card co. I have about 2-3 hassles per year. Never completly burned. Usually wrong part or sub par.

I think you're right. I price the Honda GCV160 motor alone at about $250.

Funds were tight for me last August when I started cutting grass and I needed equipment so I bought one of the Poulan Pro hand held blowers that is 200 MPH and I have used it an incredible amount with no problems. We. I first goat it the carb was way too lean for it to operate to it's fullest potential and after getting the carb tweaked it runs like a top. Has always started easy and never failed. Paid $89 on sale for it at Tractor Supply. Don't know that if it died today that I would not replace it with one just like it if I could find one on sale that cheap again.

At the same time I bought a 27cc Cub Cadet split pole trimmer and it has performed equally well. I do intend to upgrade and buy a Stihl trimmer in the next few weeks but mainly because I want one with the handlebars on it to run for extended periods of time doing heavy cutting....
