I just got a d600 put back together after a freshen up and I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb for where the carb mixture screw should be? as I turn it the motor doesn't seem to run much different.

The earlier Lawnboys had three types of carbs, metal body, plastic with free float and plastic with hinged float. The metals ones are 2 turns from closed for the main jet and 1 turn from closed for the slow speed jet. Plastic ones look like 1 1/2 from closed.

this carb is metal body with one very blunt tipped screw on the side of it. the float is a hinged style.

OK, open two full turns from closed. Start engine, if it begins to falter open further until it begins to run smoothly. Let engine warm up for 5 minutes. Close needle until the engine begins to falter then, open 1/4 turn.

thanks jp1961 I just did a d600 with the fixed float carb and it was exactly 1 1/2 turns on the adjustment screw which was not how it was when I took it apart.was more like 1/2 turn no wonder it would not run.check my pics on the Lawn Boy 5274 post.

Over the years, I think some owners tweak the mixture adjustment to compensate for an otherwise dirty carb. When you totally clean the carb the setting should go back to very close to factory settings, but might be a wee bit different due to wear of the carb.
