Yesterday my prized 2 dollar model 3054 mower seemed like it running lean and within minutes of starting began bogging down so I shut it off. When it cooled it had no compression so I removed the cylinder to find it had massive scoring at the exhaust port. I recently had the mower on its side to repair the flange on the engine base where it broke last week. ( base had been welded previously but I machined steel plate to span the broken area). I'm running the other mowers and weed eaters off of the same batch of fuel so I know its mixed not straight gas. Damage is confined to the port side of the piston. Could debris have dropped into the exhaust port and seized the piston? I'm a decent mechanic but not a magician...Is there life after Lawn boys?...I need a good replacement trim mower so that I'm mowing not working on mowers.... The fleet is down to 2 beaters now.
