I had a John Deere that wouldn't start cold but started fine otherwise .
The solution after so much aggravation i drilled a 1/8" hole in the rubber hose between the air filter and carburetor , as close to the carb as possible , to squirt a eye dropper of gasoline in . Seal the hole with a pan head sheet metal screw after it starts .
I will have to check but I am fairly sure mine isn't starting from cold or hot without your little add fuel trick

Everything is pointing at the choke plate not fully closing. Check your adjustments and be certain the plate is fully closing.
