would it be any good to take cuttings this fall for my plants in the spring? I am wondering if they would survive in a heated greenhouse all winter so that I could transplant them in the spring?

I do not see any reason cuttings would not last. If you are worried just plant them in a pot and take care of them until the spring. If not you can just take new cuttings in the spring. By the way, what kind of cuttings?
The hard part is that they have to stay cool and moist. I find most of my cuttings will only keep for about 4 or 5 weeks at the most. If you don't keep them cool and moist they will die right away.
bret,I've got the tropical hibicus that I started from cuttings 8 yrs. ago.don't know what kind of cuttings you want to start but most will start in moist sand with root horomene on the end of the cut.You have to keep the sand moist, don't let it dry out. russ
I would plant them in a pot too that way they might have a chance to survive. What kinds of cuttings are you trying to save? I have never done this before.
I want to try to save all my annuals. I don't want to have to buy them again next year, the marigolds, and those sort of flowers. I figure, what do I have to lose, worse case I have to buy them again next year.
I know people who have done it successfully but I haven't inquired of them exactly what they've done to make the cuttings last. I'd recommend doing more research on the internet because I do think it can be done.
bret,as far as Marigolds,I have some that reseed them selfs yr. after yr. All you have to do is let the heads ripen and save the seeds for next yr. or leave them where they are and they will reseed theirselfs.I guess you could try potting your other annuals and see what happens. Most annuals go to seed when the days get shorter. russ
Perhaps I will try both methods and see which works best if they will work at all. I have nothing to lose, only to gain, if neither work, what am I out, a wee bit of time.
