Why does lawn mowers like victa and masport use a disc with small cutters instead of a straight lawn mower blade . Why?

They use a disk blade with attached knives, much like disk mowers used in haying (AG work)... There are several styles of knives and a few places like Meg-Mow,
Meg-Mo Systems - Lawn Mower Blades, Replacement Mower Blades, Sharpen Lawn Mower Blades, Mulch Grass have made conversion disks for almost any mower...
I tried out a couple variations of Meg-Mow.. They did Not work well for me...
As to the why use that type blade... It has some advantage if your mowing an area that may have hidden hazards that you may hit... Knives on a rotating disk will "fold" back with less damage than a fixed blade...
