First off the mower is old, like 15 or 16 years old. It started up and ran, cut half the 2 acre property and then just suddenly died. It has oil, gas and the battery wasn't dead. It does nothing, sort of like when one of the safety measures isn't engaged. We've tried putting it in park, blades off, handles off to the side and the seat engaged. It still does nothing.
I'm hoping someone here has some ideas of things to check.

The next hing is to check both side of the battery cables
Ground straps falling off is not uncommon and either battery cable corroding in the middle under the insulation is also common .
Easy check is to run a jumper lead from the battery - to a good ground near or on the engine .
Problem goes away = bad ground strap
No joy there then try running a jumper from the + terminal on the STARTER motor then touching against the battery +
the starter should crank, if not the battery is bad

How did he check the fuse ?
with a meter ?
with a test lamp ?
just looked at it ?

With a volt meter or light check for voltage between the "B" terminal of the ignition switch and battery ground.
