Cub cadet 2166 Charge system

My 2166 has a problem keep the battery charged.
I have replaced the voltage regulator.
Tested the system: Stator output 44 to 45 ac volts
Regulator putting out 12.69 dc volts to battery

I have replaced: Ignition switch, PTO switch, PTO unit, replaced voltage regulator.
Even with the Cub running at full throttle it will not stay running when I disconnect the battery.
If I charge the battery for a couple of hours it will run for about 3 hours than the battery is totally dead.
What I'm I missing?

You should be getting 14 or more volts to charge battery. The test to see if the charging system is working is to disconnect the battery and if it wont run the charging system has a problem.

Well it wont stay running and I seem to have a problem with the regulator as when I put a meter to it will show 11.69 volts to the battery and than drop to 6,89 volts and will not come back up. This is the third regulator I have put on it.
It will run for a couple of days ok than it seem to blow the regulator.
Stator puts out 44 to 45 ac volts.
Should the regulator be grounded to the frame, as it is mounted on the plastic part of the flywheel housing.
If I meter the regulator to the ground I get 12.69 dc volts.
Is that because it is blown or do I have a wiring problem?

Get me the model number the one on the mower with lots of numbers and normally the serial number to. I will look up the wiring diagram.

According to the Cub blowup, it has a Kohler with Smartspark, so it wouldn't run disconnected, as it also likely has a fuel solenoid.
Post the engine's model and spec numbers to be certain on your engine.

I have the same mower with the same engine. If you disconnect the battery the engine shuts off. This is just how it is made.
