My 1440 will start then run for 3 to10 seconds then shut off. It starts right up again with the same results. every time. Could it be a gas problem? It has the backfire protection carburetor type.
Get a can of carb cleaner
Spray a LITTLE down the carb and start the engine
as the engine slows down give it another SHORT shot of carb cleaner.
If you can continue doing this for 30 seconds or more then you indeed do have a fuel supply problem.
The problem could actually be the anti backfire solenoid.
Some carbs have an idle circuit that is not feed via the main jet so if the solenoid has failed, the engine will fire then stop.
Same if the float bowl level is way too low
Fuel pump is faulty
Fuel filter is blocked.
But do the carb cleaner test first, you can use starter fluid if you like but it is a lot harder on the engine
When you post the results also include the make & model number of your engine.
