i have a craftsman rider model 917.271071 with a kohler cv16s engine . i have no spark.motor turns over fine. replaced the igition module still no spark.not sure if the speed advanced module was bad? i tried to unhook the module just the coil still no spark.wasnt sure if the coil still needed power too get spark from the module.my coil has three wires the one is too spark plug ,a yellow and brown wire which comes from the sam module . then there is a white and red wire not sure where they go . from what i been reading the white is kill the red one is power to sam module. my question why wouldnt the coil fire with the sam unhooked. i forgot to mention it is a single cylinder . the igition and sam are two different pcs. what do i have too check to get spark?

did you adjust air gap between module & magnet on flywheel to 0.010 or with a business card?

Unlike all Briggs, and some Kohlers, the spark advance module system requires that 12v be supplied to the module, so it has to be connected to work. If you have 12v to the SAM and all the grounds are connected correctly and with a new module you most likely have a bad SAM. I have come across this before on this engine, and some of the SAM units are not available any more, and is replaced with a new single wire module that has the spark advance built in.
