Craftsman Tractor Will NOt Start, Will Not Even Turnover HELP

I have an older Craftsman garden tractor. Recently the tractor would start, but hesitantly. A few days ago I started it up.. ran for about 5 min and I turned it off, but it would not restart.
(1) Earlier the engine would start and turnover: when key is turned there is a click, but no start. When I turned the key a second time it would turnover. Now it will do neither.
(2) Battery is fully charged, plugs have been replaced, fuel filter is new, oil fine.
(3) Tried to start with jump from portable start battery, still nothing but a click.
(4) Checked the wiring, everything seems intact, fuse is good.
(5) Blades are disengaged.
(6) Have not yet checked the push switch under the seat (needs to be pushed in to start) - wonder if this could be the problem
(7) Within the past 4 years have replaced the ignition switch, coil.

Any suggestions?

Post model number from under seat as well as all numbers from engine. You're on the right path, recheck all wiring, switches, relays, & connections by hand making sure everything is tight & secure including ground straps for engine to chassis. You can also inspect visually for corrosion or burn spots on all parts.

This might seem dumb but look at the battery and see if you have a good connection. Note: corrosion will disrupt the connection

First verify the starter by connecting it directly to the battery.
Put the + on the bolt on the starter or on the other end of the starter cable if you have no space.
Make sure the brake is on & tractor in neutral.
Connect the - lead to a good earth like the drain bolt.
Engine should turn over.
If not then remover plug & try again.
If not try & turn engine by hand.
If you can turn the motor over then the starter needs repair/ replace .


If the starter turned over normally then move the + jumper to the hot side of the starter solenoid.
If there are only 3 terminals on the starter bridge the + jumper and the small terminal, starter should spin.
If it does, remove the - jumper lead and try again, starter turns earth is good starter does not turn then you have a bad earth.

That should do you for tonight get back with the results.

Battery could have a bad cell. try and jump start it with another battery

The most likely problem is the one that is most likely... a bad battery

Sorry, I see you tried that with a portable unit. it still sounds battery related to me.

you need 12v in/at solenoid (small cable leading from ignition)....if not = faulty key switch, safety switches etc.... if voltage present entering solenoid, ensure voltage present leaving solenoid
