I have a craftsman riding lawn mower. When it gets hot it acts like it is out of gas and dies. could it be the safety switch under the seat? because that is what it is doing is like when you get off the seat. Thanks for any reply. Snag

:welcome:

Firstly when your engine runs out of fuel, it surges for a second, then does not fire for a bit the surges again but a bit slower and dies and can go through this cycle 3 to 10 times
When the seat switch cuts off the engine it stops dead so the two are totaly different.

Secondly it is almost never the safety switch under the seat but you may as well disconnect it as it is there right in front of your eyes,
Apparnenty it will double your fuel economy, make the mower run faster and cure your ashma too. But only if you truely believe every thing you see on you tube.

Now away from the world of fairy stories and back to your mower.
As you have troubles distingushing the various modes of engine shut down, invest in a $ 5.00 in line spark tester that will plug into the cap and onto the end of the plug.
Fit it to the mower tie with some cable ties so it is not sitting on the exhaust and you can see it while on the mower.
Remove the bonnet if you have to, that will not hurt the mower.
Go mow and watch the spark tester as the engine is dying.
If it flashes all the way to the bitter end, you have a fuel problem
If it stops flashing while the engine is still spinning then you have an electrical problem.

Get this far then report back so we can inform yu where to start looking.
