Hello- Thanks for reading my post. I'm having an issue with my Craftsman Rider. It's an old rider so don't believe its hydrostatic. These are my symptoms. I put it in gear and it cuts for awhile but then just stops....engine keeps running and it keeps cutting but wont go forward. If I can get it to start moving again, and I make a turn, it clunks. Seems like the power is hesitating, also because I can barely make it up hills most of the time Don't know if it's something transmission related?? Thanks!
We will need you model number for the mower to narrow down what tranny you have, and how to proceed with advice.

Look at both back wheel and see if the slot on the wheel lines up with the slot on the axle. There is a square key that slides in the slots make sure it is still there.
Appears to be a peerless transaxle in your mower. Check the condition of the drive belt, replace if needed first. The next probably problem with that tranny is the shift keys. There are between two and four depending on model, that the corners will get worn and either slip or not engage at all. Does the tranny seems like it is jumping at times, like it isn't staying in gear.
