my craftsman mower will not move when I put it in gear. I repaced the drive belt to no avail. when jack up the tires spin on one side but not the other. If you hold the tire the other one spins. could it be transmission giving the problem or the clutch?
Thanks myron

The opposing directions of the wheels is normal. Does your tranny have a bypass valve for freewheeling the mower and is it in the correct position?

There is no bypass valve on the transaxel. It is all manual.

Okay, thankyou.
The clutch is or should be spring held in open position, so I doubt
the problem is there. More likely your transaxle is "gummy in the gears" so
disassembly may be your way forward.

Trust that helps some.

Before you go tearing down the tranny, pull off the right wheel and clean / free the brake.
The diff will always allow one wheel to rotate. the brake works on the layshaft / input shaft on most mowers since about 1975.

Hello ,before the problem appeared had you removed a back wheel for any reason .There is a chance if this is the case that you lost a Axle to Wheel hub drive key ,they can drop out as you push a wheel back on and this will give the problem you have .Gary
