Looking for some guidance...

Picked up this mower Model #917.374540 with a 7.00 hp/190cc B&S engine. The guy said it was getting harder and harder to start and would quit in the middle of mowing his yard.
I replaced the carb and plug. I've replaced the brake stop/switch and magneto. I even changed the wire running from the magneto to the brake stop/switch to ensure it wasn't grounding out. I drained the gas, cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel line and put TruFuel into the tank to ensure I did not have a fuel issue.
It won't even sputter with starter fluid.
Any suggestions?
Sean

You need air, fuel, spark and compression.
I replaced the carb
Amazon or Ebay?
Bet that was first on the list LOL.

Is the mag right side up? Should be lettering on it saying block or front side.....

Take an old plug. Gap to 1/4" wide. Ground it out and check for nice blue spark.

Remove fuel line AT the carb. Drain into a glass jar. Should have a nice fuel flow.

Crack the gas cap and see if it mows grass again. If so the cap isn't venting.

Clean the cooling fins. Adjust the valves.

Shot in the dark. Check flywheel key. Make sure the flywheel hasn't turned on the crank.

Wouldn't hurt to decarbonize the engine.

Most likely you have a carb issue.

have you checked the valve lash ?
Most likely opened up to the point that a pushrod has fallen off

Thank you for the advice. It turned out to be the flywheel key. Started up on the first pull after putting it back together. Can't thank you enough.
