I bought a used craftsman LT2000 and changed the spindles and I discovered that it had a shorter belt on it than it should have this caused the blades to not disengage when I disengaged the lever. I put the new belt on and now when I engage the blades smoke comes from under the very front pulley that is also connected with the transmission belt this pulley gets hot and so does the left side guide pulley (it gets extremely hot!) any help? The mower does not smoke when the blades are not engaged. I think the guy I bought it from had it rigged to work with the shorter belt but when I put the new spindles on I messed up the rig he had on it I just need to get it working proper. Thanks in advance for any input.

" Left side guide pulley " ?

Are you saying the pulley and shaft the blade is attached to?

Ok the blade belt goes on the bottom pulley. There should be guide pins next to the pulley. Make sure the belt is not rubbing on one. Many of us have missed a guide and put the belt on the outside of it.

Take the belt off and look for any shiny spots.

I think that "ideler pulley" is now frozen because I ran it watching to see what the problem was, it was not moving freely as the other one was and it wouild only turn one way now it won't turn at all. I hope replacing it will fix the problem I will look at the belt to make sure I didn't miss a guide. Thanks any further advice would be appreciated.
