L t was used 1/2 season last year the mower was purchased new in 2013. I have a one acre yard thick grass, mowes about 1/4 of the yard gets too hot stops running. Cools down in 15 to 20 minutes starts up and runs again. What am I doing wrong?

Has it always done this?

You might need to take the cover off the engine and clean out any grass that is stuck in the cooling fins.

I would try this first then we can look at other things. Like maybe a coil going bad.

I think Carscw is on the right track with checking under the engine cover, mice and the like will make nests and stop air flow that cools things. He said to check the cooling fins first because you don't want to wreck you engine by over heating it till it cost lots more to fix. "But thats just me"

Besides checking for air flow be sure the engine is operating at full throttle when mowing.
