craftsman garden tractor

I have a craftsman garden tractor with a 27hp kohler motor in it. the other day it started to shake really bad and it does it even when the mower deck is not running. When the deck is turned on the rpms drop alot. Any suggestions on what to look for first to trouble shoot the problem

Man you are one sharp troubleshooter KennyV thats exactly what i would look at first. Sounds like a coil is not firing huh?..
