I have a G5500 with push button start, 24HP Platinum engine. For the past few years the mower would start great and mow great the first day of the season, then not start again until the carb was cleaned. This year I have had a new carb, fuel filter, fuel lines and tank installed. Again, ran great the first day back, this morning when I started it, cracks, but has black fuel rich smoke and spitting and sputtering. With the push button start I assume it has some electronic choke? What can I do to get this mower running good?

Mix Star Tron Fuel Treatment in gas can per instructions on bottle & use 93 octane gasoline in all outdoor power equipment. I purchased a plastic measuring 36oz.cup at Walmart when purchasing bottle of Star Tron which does what bottle says.
Thank you for the reply, but bad fuel is not my problem. New carb, new filter, new fuel lines, new tank and new fuel.

Adding no fuel treatment is your problem, also check spark plugs & air filter for replacement. With engine cold adjust valves to specs. in engine manual. Post model xxxxxx, type xxxx, trim xx, & code numbers from engine, thanks, Mark

B&S Technician shows proper procedure for adjusting valves, different engine & specs. possibly different.

Adjust the valve lash
Check that both cylinders are working by removing alternative plug leads
If you can go a leak down test
I suspect a blown head gasket & valve lash out of adjustment

Found my problem, but I need help with a part name or number. This is the "flap" that bolts to the top of the left coil, it has a rod and spring from the carb. My mount had broken and not keeping the rod or spring tight. I tried to post of photo, but this site will not allow a photo of ANY size.

And we have no idea what you are talking about
So either post the Model Type & serial number so we can look up the IPL or add the picture.
To post a photo it has to be in the right format
JPG works best and I usually resize then to 10" on the longest side @ 72 dpi
RAW format that most cameras & phones use will get rejected by the server

Sounds like a governor assembly. Check for new/used one with repair shop or Dealer.
