Hi,
I have an old Craftsman 11hp riding mower with a 36 inch deck. Model number 917.254274.
I picked it up for free and fixed it all up. It’s running great and is ready to go. When I got it, the deck belt was gone. I followed the diagram, installed the new belt and installed the deck.
After I installed the deck, I noticed the belt was rubbing the bottom side of the steering rod that goes to the front wheel. There is a wear pattern on the top of the rod which leads me to believe that the belt went over the rod, not under it. But the only way to do that would be to disconnect the rod, and put the rod through the belt and then put the belt back in the engine pulley. But that makes absolutely no sense.
I’m embarrassed asking this questions because I’m sure I’m not noticing the simple solution but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Dave
